
Educational workshops are provided by our Counsellors and Education Coordinators on a regular basis on issues pertaining to Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. These include workshops on the different stages of the disease, caregiver stress and coping strategies.

Alzheimer Society Services: A Place to Begin
Have you ever wondered what the Alzheimer Society of Toronto can do for you? If so, please join us for
a general information session. The presentation includes an overview of Society services
(including counselling and referrals, support groups, education and information services), and provides
details on supportive agencies in the community. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Art in the Moment: AGO Tour
A guided, interactive tour of the Art Gallery of Ontario for people in the early stages of dementia and

Bringing Choices to Late-Stage Care

Care Essentials
This is a four-session workshop for family caregivers of people in the middle stage of dementia. It
includes an in-depth look at strategies for effective communication and skills to respond to behavioural
changes.

Care in the Later Stages: Quality of Life at the End of Life for Persons with Dementia
This three-week series for family caregivers of people in the late stage of dementia discusses changes
in the late stage, approaching the End-of-Life, making difficult decisions during this stage, grief
and the need to take care of yourself.

This workshop is for family caregivers of individuals in the middle stages of Alzheimer's disease.

Long Distance Caregiving
A workshop for family caregivers whose relative with dementia lives out of town. This workshop
will explore some of the unique challenges and issues that can arise when caring from a distance
and ways caregivers can provide support and be involved in the person's life.

Montessori Training for Families
This workshop for family caregivers will look at the Montessori method of creating and presenting
activities, which encourages persons with dementia to be as independent as possible.

Moving to Long-Term Care
This set of three educational workshops aims to give family caregivers an overview of issues
related to Long-term care. Family members may choose to attend any or all three sessions.

Session 2: Applying to long-term care
A guest speaker from the CCAC will explain the process of application to long-term care.
Session 3: Adjustment and day to day life in long-term care
Helping caregivers prepare and adjust to their family member entering a long-term care facility,
including advocacy, adjustment strategies and caregiver coping.

Nia
Nia draws from the disciplines of martial arts, dance and healing arts, connecting the body, mind,
emotions and spirit. The session is for family caregivers and people in the early stages of dementia
and is adapted and personalized to all levels of agility and fitness. Please wear
comfortable clothing.

Reducing Income Tax with the Disability Tax Credit and Medical Expense Tax Credit - NEW
The disability tax credit and medical expense tax credit can provide you with tax relief. Or if you
don't have any taxable income, the disability tax credit can be transferred to your spouse, common-law
partner or another supporting person. At this session, you will learn from a representative of the
Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), including eligibility requirements and the steps you need to take to apply
for and complete the T2201 tax form.
