There is currently no cure for Alzheimer's disease and no treatment that will stop its progression. However, several medications are available that can help with some symptoms. These medications can slow down the decline of memory, language and thinking abilities.
Mild to moderate Alzheimer's diseaseThree drugs are available in Canada to treat symptoms in people with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease -- Aricept™, Exelon™ and Reminyl™. All are cholinesterase inhibitors.
Moderate to severe Alzheimer's diseaseEbixa® (memantine hydrochloride) has been conditionally approved to treat symptoms in people with moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. See the Drug Approval Process page for information on conditional approvals.
