Treatment - Drugs Available in Canada

Mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease

Three drugs are available in Canada to treat symptoms in people with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease -- Aricept™, Exelon™, Exelon™ Patch and Reminyl™. All are cholinesterase inhibitors.

 

Moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease

Ebixa® (memantine hydrochloride) has been conditionally approved to treat symptoms in people with moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. See the Drug Approval Process page for information on conditional approvals.

 

A number of clinical trials and research studies are underway in Canada and the U.S.
